Youth justice camp was a success!

We are very pleased with the outcome of Kennedy Schofield Lawyers’ first ever youth justice camp. We feel it was very fitting that it took place on International Youth Day. The camp’s 19 youth participants were very active audience members asking the speakers lots of interesting and thought-provoking questions. So far the feedback we have received from youth and parents about the camp has been very positive. The event provided an opportunity for youth to learn about their legal rights and responsibilities, as well as the justice system, in way that was interactive and fun.

One of the fun learning activities was a Youth Justice Jeopardy game whereby youth were tested on what they learned from the speakers. The youth got very involved in the game and showed that they were indeed listening and absorbing information from the speakers.

We are very thankful to the speakers who came out to talk to the camp attendees which included representatives from the RCMP, the Nova Scotia Crown Attorneys’ Office, the Cyberbullying Investigative Unit and the Nova Scotia Human Rights Commission.

This free camp was hosted by Kennedy Schofield Lawyers but we also got some help from local businesses that made contributions to help with food and prizes including the Atlantic Superstore, McDonald’s, Walmart and Sobeys. The St. Margaret’s Bay Safety Minded ATV Association provided the camp space at no charge. Thanks to everyone who helped to make this year’s youth justice camp a success!
