Born and raised in St. Margaret’s Bay, Tracey graduated with distinction from Mount St. Vincent University. Tracey obtained her law degree from Dalhousie University and was called to the Nova Scotia Bar in 2000. Tracey articled with a large firm in the city but wanted to come back to her community to offer legal services. She established her first firm, Tracey Kennedy’s Law Practice, in October of 2000. That has proven to be a wonderful decision, both professionally and personally.
Tracey concentrates her practice in real estate and estate planning. She is passionate about assisting people who are purchasing or selling homes, especially first time home buyers, because she wants to help people understand the law. Drafting wills, powers of attorney and living wills gives Tracey the opportunity to create and establish life long legal relationships with her clients. She finds it very rewarding to be able to work with a family over time as they build their lives together and help them through the transitions and milestones life inevitably brings, be they good or bad. Practicing probate law enables her to offer support to her clients during a very difficult time. Dealing with the death of a loved one is hard enough without the added worry of how to wind up an estate.
Tracey is a member of the Real Estate Lawyers Association of Nova Scotia. Tracey gives presentations in the community to help people stay informed about the latest developments in the law.
In 2010, Tracey partnered with Jennifer Schofield to open Kennedy Schofield Lawyers and they have worked together to create a full- service law firm so that they can meet the community’s legal needs without having to refer people to lawyers in the city. Tracey and Jennifer welcomed Amanda Lutz to this partnership in 2021.
When she is not working Tracey enjoys spending time with her husband, local artist Neil Depew, and their son, enjoying activities such as skiing and camping. Tracey is also an avid gardener and enjoys digging in the dirt.
A strong believer in shopping local, Tracey uses local contractors, trades and suppliers wherever possible. She believes this support helps keep the local economy strong, and in turn allows Kennedy Schofield Lutz Lawyers and other businesses in the area to give back to the community.
